MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT AND FORESTRY

SOUND CHEMICALS MANAGEMENT, MAINSTREAMING & UPOPS REDUCTION PROJECT IN KENYA

ADVERTISEMENT FOR INTERNSHIP POSITIONS – 4 POSTS

The Sound Chemicals Management, mainstreaming and UPOPS Reduction is a project that has been financed by the GEF and UNDP, and acts as the GEF Implementing Agency. The project is executed by the Ministry of environment and Forestry, which assumes the overall responsibility for the achievement of project results as UNDP’s National Implementation Partner.

The project is executed according to UNDP’s National Implementation Modality (NIM), as agreed by UNDP and the Government of Kenya.

Terms of Engagement: The respective successful candidates shall:

i) Be employed on a twelve (12) months contract; and
ii) Earn a consolidated salary of kshs. 25,000.00 per month.

The Sound Chemicals Management, Mainstreaming and UPOPS Reduction Project seek to recruit four (4) intern positions as detailed here-below:


1. COMMUNITY OUTREACH INTERN – ONE (1) POSITION)

Duties and responsibilities:

Reporting to the Project Manager, the duties and responsibilities attached to the position will entail assisting the Project manager in the following:

i) Day to day management of project activities;
ii) Preparation of project reports;
iii) Data collection, compilation; analysis ;
iv) Matters related to awareness campaigns, M&E and Knowledge Resource Management;
v) Documentation of Reports;
vi) Providing the Project Management Unit with administrative; and logistical assistance.

Requirements for the position

The applicant must possess of the following:

i) Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Community Development, Sociology, Social Studies or any other relevant Qualification from a recognized Institution;
ii) Demonstrate good Interpersonal, oral and written skills;
iii) Certificate in Computer application Skills;


2. COMMUNICATION INTERN – ONE (1) POSITION

Duties and responsibilities:

Reporting to the Project Manager, the position holder will assist in the following:

i) Day to day activities relating to communication;
ii) Preparation of project reports;
iii) Data collection, compilation; analysis ;
iv) Matters related to awareness campaigns, M&E and Knowledge Resource Management;
v) Documentation and maintenance of technical records and reports;
vi) Keeping minutes of meetings of meetings; maintaining hard and electronic copies in an efficient and readily accessible filing system; and
vii) Participating in event organization;
viii) Developing content on project issues for uploading onto
the ministry’s website.

Requirements for the position:

An applicant must possess the following:

i) A Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: mass Communication, Public relations, Communication Studies, or Media Studies/Sciences. Journalism from a recognized Institution, OR
ii) A Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, with a post graduate diploma in mass communication, communication studies or media studies/sciences, journalism from a recognized institution;
iii) A Certificate in computer application skills; and
iv) Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, oral, and writing skills


3. IT SERVICES/WEB DESIGNER INTERN – ONE (1) POSITION

Duties and responsibilities

The position holder will assist the Project Manager in the following duties and responsibilities:

i) Design of a chemicals data base;
ii) Maintaining an inventory of electronic resources, design of awareness materials, printing and exhibitions.
iii) Drafting a project communications strategy/plan, that will be in-cooperated with the annual workplans, and updated annually;
iv) Coordinating and overseeing the implementation of public awareness activities across all project components;
v) Facilitating the design and maintenance of the project website/webpages and ensure it is up-to-date and dynamic;
vi) Facilitating learning and sharing of knowledge and experiences relevant to the project;
vii) Preparation of project reports for workshops;
viii) Providing ME&F with administrative and logistical support and assistance; and
ix) Documenting project Reports.

Requirements for the position

An Applicant must possess the following:-

i) Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Information Communication and Technology, Computer Science, or any other relevant qualification from a recognized institution;
ii) Ability to ICT, and especially website design, desktop publishing software, or any other relevant package; and
iii) Good oral and written communication skills;


4. FINANCE INTERN – ONE (1) POSITION

Reporting to the Project Manager, the position will entail assisting the Project manager in the day to day management of project financial activities:

i) Providing logistical support in procurement, and contracting
activities;
ii) Compilation of financial reports and budget revisions;
iii) Updating, verifying information pertaining to project finances;
iv) Maintaining financial records for the project.

Requirements for the position

An applicant must possess the following:

i) Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Finance and Accounting, Bcom (Finance option),or a relevant qualification from a recognized institution.
ii) Proficiency in Financial Management Computer Applications,
iii) Good communication skills,
iv) Certificate in Computer application Skills;
